Our Story

The Welfare Organization for Relief Livelihood and Development was founded in 2012 by a small collective of humanitarian experts, development economists, and dedicated local community leaders who recognized a critical gap in traditional aid models. The founders observed that while immediate disaster relief was often robust, the transition back to self-sufficiency was frequently fragmented and slow, leaving communities perpetually vulnerable to the next crisis. Their shared commitment was to create an organization that not only delivered rapid, compassionate aid but also remained long enough to foster deep, systemic change. This led to the formation of WORLED, designed from the ground up to operate with a dual mandate: immediate compassion and long-term strategy. Our initial projects focused on post-disaster recovery in Southeast Asia, where we piloted our integrated approach, helping small farming communities rebuild their homes while simultaneously establishing seed banks and financial cooperatives that ensured greater economic security against future shocks. This early success solidified our commitment to the three-pillar model that defines our work today.
Over the past decade, WORLED has experienced thoughtful and impactful growth, expanding our operations from a regional focus to a trusted international presence working in over twelve countries across four continents. Our journey has been marked by a continuous commitment to learning and adaptation; we continuously refine our program models based on rigorous monitoring, evaluation, and, most importantly, feedback from our local partners and beneficiaries.
